What Dog Door Size Options Are Available?
Dog doors come in a wide variety of sizes to accommodate different breeds. It's important to choose a door based on your dog’s full-grown size, even if your dog is still a puppy.
The image above (not shown here) is approximately to scale. The largest door on the left is the PetSafe 660, which is the biggest option available. PetSafe's large-size doors are consistent in dimensions, while their medium doors are similar in size to the Dog Mate Large door. Smaller size options are also available from both PetSafe and Dog Mate, offering a good range between medium and small.
Dog Door Product Options
Staywell 600 Series by PetSafe
Originally launched under the Staywell brand, now owned by PetSafe, these doors have a long-standing reputation for reliability. The 600 series features strong aluminum frames and durable rubber flaps with magnetic closures to help keep the flap shut. For added control and insulation, each door includes an internal slide-in panel—ideal for windy or cold weather, or for times when you want to restrict your dog’s access.
A standout in this series is the PetSafe 660 Extra-Large Dog Door, the biggest dog door we offer.
PetSafe Extreme Weather Doors
On colder days, pet doors can lead to noticeable heat loss. PetSafe’s Extreme Weather Doors are designed specifically to reduce that. These models feature triple-flap construction: two durable rubber flaps and one insulated thermal flap in the middle for added energy efficiency. The flaps are adjustable to ensure a snug fit after installation, and they also come with an internal slide-in panel for extra insulation or to control your pet’s access.
Staywell Original Series
A tried-and-true classic, the Staywell Original Dog Doors are among the most popular and best-selling dog doors worldwide. Cost-effective and reliable, these doors feature rigid flaps with U-shaped draught excluder frames and come with internal slide-in panels. They’re available in three sizes and three colors: white, brown, and grey.
Dog Mate Door Range by Pet Mate
Pet Mate, a trusted UK-based manufacturer, offers a range of dog doors comparable to other brands. A key difference is their small-sized door, which is slightly larger than standard and features a rigid flap, making it a great option for homes with both dogs and cats. These doors are made with robust frames and clear rigid flaps and include slide-in rear panels for insulation and access control.
Replacement Dog Door Flaps
Yes, you can replace a broken or worn-out dog door flap. We stock a full range of replacement flaps from Staywell, PetSafe, and Dog Mate, along with various spare parts to help you make quick and easy repairs.
Can You Install a Dog Door in a Glass Door?
Yes—but with limitations. For smaller dogs, a model like the PetSafe 280, originally designed for large cats and small dogs, can be installed in glass, as it requires a circular cutout. Larger dog doors require a square or rectangular cut, which is significantly more difficult in glass.
If your glass door is made of two panels, you might consider replacing the lower panel with a PVC-reinforced panel, which is stronger and easier to modify for dog door installation.
